World’s Oldest Marathon Runner Fauja Singh Passes Away at 114: Amit Swami

Rewari, July 15, 2025 — Amit Swami, National President of the Youngmen Association of India and Director General of the Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Sports Federation, hi expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the world’s oldest marathon runner, Fauja Singh. He described the loss as an irreparable blow to the world of sports.

According to reports, the 114-year-old legendary runner passed away yesterday at around 3:30 PM in a tragic road accident near Jalalpur village in Punjab. He was traveling by car when another vehicle collided with his. Despite being rushed to the hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Paying tribute, Amit Swami said that Fauja Singh was a symbol of courage, resilience, and vitality. Remarkably, he began running marathons at the age of 89 and continued participating in international events well into his 100s. Known globally as the “Turbanned Tornado,” Fauja Singh ran in 18 marathons, including the 2011 Toronto Marathon, 2012 London Marathon, and the Hong Kong Marathon.

Born in 1911 in a small village in British India’s Punjab region, Fauja Singh’s life was an inspiration — proving that age is just a number. His story exemplifies how confidence, discipline, and determination can help achieve any goal.

Amit Swami, along with numerous athletes, sports institutions, and social organizations, paid heartfelt tribute to Fauja Singh and prayed for the peace of his soul.
