Controlling population growth is essential for national development: Amit Swami

On the occasion of World Population Day, Amit Swami, National President of Youngmen’s Association of India, appealed to people to be aware of the need to control population growth. He said that India has surpassed China in population and become the most populous country in the world. While the government is running various awareness programs to control population growth, we also need to think deeply about the ill effects of population explosion.

Amit Swami said that the population explosion is putting immense pressure on our resources, leading to scarcity and degradation of quality of life. If we all become aware, we can control population growth. Sustainable development is only possible with population control. The root cause of many problems like poverty, hunger, black marketing, pollution, inflation, and violence is population explosion.

While urban areas have awareness about family planning, rural and tribal areas need more attention. If we don’t take steps now, the situation will become dire in the future. The world’s population has crossed 8 billion, and India’s population has reached 141.72 crore, making it the most populous country in the world, which is a matter of concern. We need to become aware and run large-scale campaigns for family planning, education, and women’s empowerment.
